Take Care of the Flowers and Goldfish: A Mother's Letter to Her Daughters

Today I was going through some old boxes and found a photo copy of a letter that my grandmother wrote her daughters Dorothy age 10 and Helen Jean age 5.

DOTTIE READ THIS
4 o'clock in the morning

Dear little girls,

When you wake up Mommee and Daddy will be on their way to Lovell.  Dear Grandma Houston has gone to the Heavenly Father.

Be dear little girls and please keep well.

Dottie, wear your long stockings every day and a hat.
Jeanie, wear your snow pants whenever you go outside.

We will be back in a week.

Bye Bye and lots of hugs and kisses.

Mama and Daddy

Take care of the flowers and gold fish.

This was most likely written around January 7, 1945.  Their other grandmother and neighbor lady probably looked after them.  They wouldn't have been left alone for a week.
